799,266. Tanks. WIGGINS, J. H. Aug. 2, 1955, No. 22172/55. Class 69 (1). A method of building a cylindrical metal storage tank such as that described in Specification 799,265 consists of building up two or three stiff ring-shaped members on the bottom of the tank concentrically with a central roof support, securing roof plates to the members to form two concentric surfaces meeting at an angle in radial section, and then raising the roof and securing it to the tank wall and central support so that the circular juncture of the two surfaces forms the lowest line of the roof. Fig. 6 shows the roof, consisting of surfaces A and B between rings D and E and V-section member 4 hoisted to its final position by temporary winches 8 and pulleys 6 and 9. The roof plates of the centre surface may be segmental in shape, and secured by their ends to members 4 and D before the roof is raised; the centre member D is then raised sufficiently to give the surface the necessary curvature and the longitudinal edges of the plates welded together.
