Abstract
958,809. Load cells. UNITED STATES STEEL CORPORATION. Aug. 1, 1961 [Sept. 14, 1960], No.27900/61. Heading G1W. A load cell has a pancake-shaped pressure chamber 13 on which rest a nest of concentric rings 18 formed with outwardly-projecting flanges 19 at the bottom and inwardly projecting flanges 20 at the top, so that a ring is (loosely) held by the next outer ring the outermost ring being held by a flange 21 on the side walls 12, and the innermost ring holding a centred disc 17. By using plates 22 of different diameter, the number of rings operative in loading the chamber 13, and hence the load pressure ratio, may be varied, so that a single pressure gauge 16 may be used for measuring a wide range of loads.
