A tiltable converter comprises a shell and a trunnion ring surrounding the shell and engaging a number of pairs of claws spaced round the periphery of the shell, the claws being secured by members taking the tensile forces only, e.g. screws, and members taking the transverse forces only e.g. stops. As shown, a vessel 1 has a trunnion ring 2 secured by four pairs of claws, upper claws 3 and lower claws 4, the upper claws being secured by screws 6 and stops 5 which are welded into the shell of the vessel, and the lower claws by screws 6 and stops 7 which are welded on to the shell.
