A converter vessel has a supporting ring held at a distance from the wall of the vessel by spaced, inclined supports, each support being secured at one end to the converter wall and at the other to the supporting ring. As shown, a converter vessel 1 has welded to it a plurality of supports 3, 4, the free ends of the supports being welded to a supporting ring 5, which may be of box construction with the supports attached to the edges.
