Abstract

568,605. Storage bins, silos, &c. TARRAN, D. G. May 17, 1943, No. 7821. [Class 20 (i)] A storage bin, silo, &c. is formed of a number of similar pre-cast concrete, or reinforcedconcrete slabs 1 having integral flanges 4 and ribs 3, the slabs being assembled in a ring with interposed pre-cast concrete upwardly tapering buttress-elements 10 having a height at least twice the base dimension, bolts 14 passing through the flanges on the slabs and a portion 11 of reduced thickness on the buttress element to couple the rings and buttress elements together. The slabs in the tapering lower portion of the silo have one sloping and one perpendicular edge face, but the silo may be extended upwards by slabs having both horizontal edges perpendicular to the plane of the slab. The slabs are connected vertically by bolts passing through the flanged edges. The bottom ring may be secured to a concrete base by rag bolts. The inner face of the slabs may be of arcuate form to form a truly cylindrical silo. The outer edges of the buttress elements are vertical, so that the radial dimension of the silo is substantially constant throughout its height.
