Abstract

814,388. Tanks. OXLEY ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. Sept. 9, 1955 [Sept. 9, 1954], No. 26141/54. Class 69 (1). A roof structure for a cylindrical gasholder or like large container comprises (as shown in the diagrammatic fragmentary plan view of Fig. 1) a number of radial main frame ribs 1 following the roof contour from its unsupported centre 2 and being forked from a point 5 into two branches 1a and 1b each secured to a support member 7 at the roof edge, so that extra ribs at the outer part of the roof provide extra strength and support for the roof plates. Adjacent branches of adjacent ribs may be parallel as shown, and may be secured to uprights of the gasholder, or the member 7 may be a box-section peripheral boom such as is described in Specification 742,498. The ribs 1 may be of I-section or of a lattice construction described and illustrated in some detail.
