Abstract
742,499. Gasholders. OXLEY ENGINEER ING CO., Ltd. May 19, 1954 [May 21, 1953], No. 14330/53. Class 54. A tubular central roof support 1, adapted to be secured to the roof framing of a gasholder crown, has a base member 6 with a reduced bearing face 4 to engage a supporting surface 5 when the crown is lowered, whereby relative lateral movement between the member 6 and the surface 5 may occur if necessary to prevent eccentric loading of the support 1. The member 6, which may consist of a tube closed by a frusto-conical plug 11, is welded to flanges 7, 9 which are in turn welded to the support 1. Radial web plates 10, some of which extend through the walls of the support 1 to the tube 6, are located by an annular flange 8 and serve as anchors to roof framing bars or struts. The upper end of the support 1 is also of welded construction and includes two flanges 13, 18 welded to a tube 17 and secured to roof framing bars 19, and an annular flange 14 connected to the flange 13 by web plates 15 and stiffening plates 16. The plug 11 may have a curved bearing face.
