Abstract
561,486. Kiln cars. SWINNERTONS, Ltd., and BLOORE, R. B. Dec. 1, 1942, No. 17060. [Class 51 (ii)] Kiln cars for conveying earthenware or other goods through a kiln during the firing operation are provided with a superstructure for supporting the goods consisting of pillars formed in sections connected by spigot and socket joints ,and provided with ledges for supporting bats which are recessed at their edges to engage with the pillars in such a manner as to permit expansion and contraction. Fig. 1 shows one form of pillar comprising a central section c with an upper spigot a -and tapering base portion forming a ledge d for supporting the bats g. The base is provided with a socket to receive the spigot a of a pillar section arranged below. Ledges b are provided beneath the spigots to support the base portion of the section above. The bats g, Fig. 4, are provided with recesses h to engage the pillars. Fig. 5 shows a modification in which the cylindrical part c is provided with a spigot a and socket i to engage with corresponding parts of adjacent sections. The lower end of the part c is provided with a flange e<1> on which rests a ring d<1> for supporting the bats. The base sections of the pillars have the flanges c<1> resting in a support j.
