Abstract

387,488. Tunnel centering. McALPINE, SIR M., 50, Pall Mall, London. Jan. 8, 1932, No. 605. [Class 20 (ii).] A centering device for use in the construction of tunnels and the like consists of two part-circular ring- like elements a, b with their ends separate and joined by fishplates e, the two ends of one element being cross connected by a stay c, the centre of which is provided with an aperture k from which a plumb-bob may be suspended. The lower lining elements h of the tunnel are first placed in position and then the ring a, b is placed, after which the upper lining elements h are built in. By removing the fishplate bolts f, the spaces g between the ends of the elements a, b allow them to collapse in wardly.
