Abstract

590,294. Roofs. WHESSOE, Ltd., (formerly WHESSOE FOUNDRY & ENGINEERING CO., Ltd.), and NOONE, M. J. April 19, 1945, No. 9834. [Class 20 (iv)] [Also in Group XXIX] An untrussed roof structure for a tank comprises a curb 1 attached to the tank wall 2 and a plurality of rafters 3 spaced around and extending between a hollow centre ring 4 and the curb 1. The ring 4 may have a circular or square cross-section formed from four L-section rings 4a. The vertical inner ends of the rafters 3 are welded to the ring 4, whilst a ring 10 is welded to the underside of the ring 4, the projecting portion being bolted to the rafters 3. The curb 1 comprises two circular L-section members 1a and 1b, spaced apart by brackets 6 which are bolted to the wall 2. The horizontal flange of member la overhangs the wall 2, whilst the horizontal flange of member lb abuts against the inner surface of the wall 2, both flanges being welded to the tank at the lines of contact. The outer end of each rafter has a connecting plate 9, the plate being bolted to the vertical flanges of the members 1a and 1b and the spacing brackets. Purlins 5 are secured between the rafters.
