Abstract
729,166. Storing liquefied gases. STEINHAG ZENTRALEUROPAEISCHE STAHL-UND EISEN-INDUSTRIE UND HANDELS-AKT.-GES. Oct. 17, 1952 [Oct. 29, 1951], No. 26082/52. Class 8 (2). [Also in Group XXIX] A closed storage tank, Figs. 1a and 1b, for liquefied gases comprises a plane bottom 1 and walls 2, 3 each shaped as a developable ruled surface, the walls intersecting at an angle of 180 degrees or less and passing tangentially into the tank bottom. The radius of curvature at any point on the tank wall is inversely proportional to the internal pressure at that point. In one form, shown in Fig. 3, the ridge 4 of the tank is supported by columns 5. and columns 8 mounted on bases 6 around. the edges of the tank bottom support the tank walls. The walls outside the columns 8 are provided with 3-sided bracing structures 8, 9, 10 ; 10, 11, 12 ; 9,'13, 4, and the upper parts of the walls are reinforced by bracing 16. If the walls are thin, stringers 15 are provided. In the form shown in Fig. 4, the ridge 4 is supported by diagonal braces 7 and the 3-sided structures and bracing 16 of Fig. 3 are replaced by metal sheets 9a, 10a and 17 welded to the tank walls. The tank bottom 1 may be square instead of rectangular and a plane roof may be provided.
