Abstract

514,057. Storing fluids under pressure; tanks. GOODRICH, T. M. April 22, 1938, No. 12105. [Class 8 (ii)] [Also in Group XXIX] A pressure fluid tank comprises a domed structure with walls 4 formed of curved or bent plates of thin metal, and a bottom plate 3 secured internally to the walls and resting in a concrete base 1. The pressure of the fluid maintains the tanks on the base 1 and places the bottom plate 3 under tension. Internal bracing members 7, 8 may be provided, and the bottom plate may in addition be secured externally to the walls. In a modification the lower part of the tank may take the form of a short truncated cone tapered downwards, or the tank may be in the form of a sphere cut off by a plane about 20‹ below the equator.
