Abstract

599,594. Tanks. SNYDER, M. C. Sept. 21, 1945, No. 24561. [Class 69 (i)] A liquid storage tank comprises a horizontal chamber 10 to one or both ends of which is connected a side chamber 11, 12. In each side chamber is situated a baffle having a horizontal section 21 across the upper part of the side chamber and connected at the inner end to the chamber 10 whilst at the outer end of the section 21 there is a dependent vertical portion 22 so that a passage 27 is left between the tank wall and the portion 22. Fuel inlets 15 are provided to the chamber 10, the fuel then passing to each side chamber through a check valve 28 so that in the event of the tank overturning, the majority of the fuel cannot escape. Pipes 16 and 17 provide means for withdrawing the fuel and, with the inlets 15 and air vent 20, are situated adjacent the front face of the tank.
