753,829. Hydraulic-seal safety-apparatus. AKTIEBOLAGET NYNAES-PETROLEUM. Nov. 17, 1954 [Nov. 18, 1953], No. 33248/54. Class 135. A liquid seal device for venting a storage tank for inflammable liquids upon the attainment of a predetermined pressure or vacuum within the tank comprises a container 3 connected to a duct 2 communicating with the tank and divided by a wall 4 whereby liquid in the container 3 forms two columns interconnected at their lower ends. The liquid is one that is miscible with water and able to withstand a temperature of about - 25 ‹ C. without freezing, e.g. ethylene glycol and water, so that formation of ice within a flame trap 5 immersed in the liquid is prevented. The vent opening 6 can be closed by a shutter 7. In a modification an overflow passage is provided for the liquid seal chamber to prevent overfilling.
