Abstract
<PICT:0447250/IV/1> A Kipp apparatus is characterized in that the acid container 1 is in communication with the gas-producing vessel solely by means of an up-tube 8, the openings 10 or the upper edge 11 of which are respectively situated above the highest liquid level in the gas - producing vessel, in order to prevent mixing of fresh acid with the decomposed products. The acid container 1 and the gas-producing vessel 2 are made of one piece of glass. The up-tube 8 is fitted air-tight into the neck 9 between the container 1 and the vessel 2, is sufficiently long to project above the vessel 2, and may be provided with the openings 10 near the upper end of the vessel 2 or in the gas container 4, which container is fitted air-tight into the neck at the top of the vessel 2, and is provided with a gas outlet tap 5. The acid supply container 6 is fitted air-tight into the neck at the top of the container 4, and its tube 7 reaches nearly to the bottom of the container 1. Acid is filled into the containers 1 and 6, and, if the tap 5 is open, rises in the tube 8, flows through the openings 10, or over the upper edge 11 of the tube 8, and on to the material in the vessel 2.
