Abstract

514,918. Food - preserving vessels; closures. LAING, J. May 19, 1938, No. 14918. [Classes 66 and 125 (iii)] A vessel 1 for use in preserving food by heating and subsequent storage has a non - return release valve, through which steam &c. can escape during the heating, formed by an opening or openings 16, Fig. 2, in the wall of the vessel underneath the cap 4, or openings 8, Fig. 3, in the neck of the vessel below the boundary edge of the cap 4, together with a tensioned rubber ring 6, covering the joint between the cap and the vessel. The cap may be attached by screw or bayonet joint, openings 5 being provided between the cap and the vessel for the escape of the steam &c. A ledge 15 may be provided on the the vessel to catch drips. The vessel may be made of sheet metal or refractory glass.
