[Also in Division F1] A milk churn &c. washing apparatus comprises a holding basin 1 having a double bottom 3, 4 containing washing liquid heated, e.g. by gravity circulation through a heating pipe 9, 12, an inverted churn 16 placed in the holder being sprayed with the liquid when valve 1 is opened to admit air from a compressor through a pipe 14 to the double bottom, thus forcing the liquid up a pipe 13a to a rose 13. The apparatus is mounted in a milk lorry, the heater pipe 9, 12 being wound round its exhaust pipe 10; alternatively, the exhaust pipe may run through the false bottom 3, 4. As the liquid level rises in the churn &c. 16, air is vented from its inside through a pipe 17. On completion of the washing operation, a valve 6 is opened to allow the return of the liquid through a pipe 5 to the false bottom 3, 4, where it is reheated. Drain cocks and a pressure relief valve 20 are provided.
