Abstract

1,162,779. Hydraulic jacking arrangements. MITSUI SHIPBUILDING & ENG. CO. Ltd. 9 Aug., 1968 [12 Aug., 1967], No. 38073/68. Heading B8J. [Also in Division E2] A jacking apparatus for raising a platform B comprises a cylindrical support P, for a heavy weight such as a ship or derrick attached to the platform B, secured to the sea bottom. Upper and lower rings 1, 2 surround the support P and each has a taper ring 3, 4 comprising three arcuate members with intermediate compression springs (11), Fig. 2 (not shown). Rubber or like rings 5 are on the inner surfaces of the rings 3, 4 while the platform B is suspended from the upper ring 1 by rods 6. From the starting position in Fig. 1 the platform B is lifted step-by-step along the support P as indicated in Figs. 3a to 3d. Fig' 3a shows three main hydraulic jacks 7 between the rings 1, 2 extended thus lifting the ring 1 and attached platform B along the support P, the weight being taken by the clamped ring 2. Lifting of the ring 1 releases the taper ring 3 which is expanded by its compression springs (11) so that it can be lifted, Fig. 3b, and forced into the gap between the ring 1 and the support P by three hydraulic jacks 9. Three hydraulic jacks 8 then lift the ring 2, Fig. 3c, and the starting position is recovered by lifting the taper ring 4 by three hydraulic jacks 10. The lowering operation is illustrated in Figs. 4a to 4# (not shown). Instead of pressure oil to operate the jacks water or air under pressure may be used. The support P may be lifted or lowered with respect to a fixed platform if required.
