Abstract

798,938. Suction slices of paper-making machines &c. WALMSLEY (BURY), Ltd., and TEMPERLEY, J. Feb. 21, 1957 [March 7, 1956], No. 7101/56. Class 96. In a machine for making paper or paperboard, a suction slice withdraws water expressed at the inlet side of a nip of a wet press or of a cylinder mould M and couch roll T, the suction mouth 11 leading to a short upwardly-directed passageway 19, a longer downwardly-directed passageway 20, and a collecting chamber C connected by a series of short vertical pipes P with a discharge chamber D which is exhausted by an upwardly-directed suction pipe 27, and is drained of white water by a downwardlyextending pipe system (not shown, Fig. 3). The slice is supported on swinging arms A pivoted coaxially with the roll M. The pipes P are slotted at 17 to facilitate screw-adjustment. A removable packing X in the front arm A facilitates felt-changing.
