Abstract
797,572. Gas filters. TRIGGS, W. W. (Air- Maze Corporation). June 29, 1956, No. 20177/56. Class 8(2). Trapping of oil blown from the sump 14 through an annular gas inlet duct of a filter of the oil bath type during a reverse flow of gas through an axial outlet duct 13 and surrounding annular filter elements 25, e.g., during the unloading of a compressor is effected by a centrally apertured baffle 50 and prefiltering elements 33, 34 located between said annular inlet duct and an inlet 10 of the apparatus as a whole. During normal filtration dust-laden gas from the inlet 10 passes downwardly through the axiallyspaced prefilters 33, 34 of crimped wire mesh and the central aperture of the baffle 30. The air is then diverted by the imperforate top 16 of the filter elements 25 into the annular inlet formed by a casing wall 12 and an imperforate skirt 16a which dips below the normal oil level 24 and from thence through the elements 25 into the outlet 13. A reverse flow of gas blows oil against a downwardly directed portion of the baffle and oil spray carried through the central aperture is caught by the prefilters 33, 34. Specification 657,724 is referred to.
