Abstract

796,176. Glazing structures. HILLS (WEST BROMWICH), Ltd. Sept. 14, 1956 [Sept. 22, 1955], No. 27037/55. Class 20(3) In a glazed roof, or wall, structure wherein panels 13, e.g. of glass, are secured in the rectangular openings of a skeleton framework formed by a number of spaced horizontal glazing bars 21 each secured between two adjacent vertical bars 1, U-shaped capping strips 8, or 8b, have longitudinal chan. nels 14 or 14b formed in their crowns to facilitate concealed securement to the respective glazing bars, the mouth of each channel being closed by a resilient, and detachable, U-shaped bead 15 or 15b. Each vertical bar, Fig. 1, having tables 3 with lateral grooves 4 for caulking strips 5, is provided along the length of its outer stem face with a number of tapped holes for receiving the threaded ends of posts 6, the opposite ends of which have tapped holes. A capping strip 8, Fig. 1, is secured to a corresponding vertical bar 1 by screws 7 which pass through holes in the base of the channel 14 and thread into the holes in the ends of the posts 6, caulking strips 12, accommodated in grooved lips 11 formed along the free edges of the sides of the capping strip, seating upon the corresponding edge surfaces of two glass sheets 13, the internal edge surfaces of which seat upon the caulking strips 5. The sides of the bead 15, which have inturned marginal zones 18 to facilitate entry into the channel 14, may be longer, or shorter, than the sides of the channel 14, so that its base is correspondingly located outside or inside, the crown of the capping strip. The tables 23 of the horizontal bars 21, Fig. 3, located in this case, at the inner edge of the stem, have longitudinal grooves 24, the lower one receiving a caulking strip 25 and the upper one, the upper edge of a weathering strip 26 which embraces the outer edge of the stem of the bar 21 and extends, with its lower edge over the upper, outer, edge of the glazing 13. The capping strip 8b, has caulking strips 12b fitted in grooves 11b in the free ends of its sides 9b, the lower side having an inwardly projecting flange 27 which extends across the mouth of the strip and has holes for the passage therethrough of the fixing screws 7b. A longitudinal groove 19b is formed in each side of the channel 14b to receive the ribbed edges 16b of the sides of the bead 15b. The stems of the vertical bars 1 are enclosed by channel section covers 29.
