A window or door frame is made up of like frame members each comprising a main strip element 1 or 9 of generally rectangular cross-section and having undercut recesses 3, 3' formed along its length at or near all four corners of its cross-section, and one or more complementary ancillary elements such as stops 14, 16, 17, drain channel 12, sealing strips 3, 13 and drainage element 8, on the frame member and having a part received in one of the recesses 3, 3', whereby by means of two basic elements 1 or 9 and elements 14, 16, 17 or 12 or 8 frame members of varying cross-sectional forms can be formed.
