Abstract

795,548. Sleeve couplings; junction boxes. SIEMENS & HALSKE AKT.-GES. Sept. 15, 1955 [Sept. 15, 1954; Sept. 29, 1954], No. 26509/55. Class 38 (1). In jointing coaxial cables a longitudinally divided sleeve is clamped on to the outer conductors after jointing of the inner conductors, supporting sleeves being placed in the ends of the outer conductors to limit the deformation thereof. Fig. 1 shows a sleeve in two semicylindrical halves 7, 8 which is clamped on to outer conductors 5 by clamps each consisting of jaws 9, 10, Fig. 1a, and a clamping screw 11. One of the supporting sleeves 6 is shown. Fig. 2 shows an alternative form of clamp. In a modification, Fig. 3, the halves 25, 26 of the outer sleeve are secured to, or formed integrally with, split clamping rings 23, 24 surrounding the outer conductors 19, 20 and adapted to be engaged by clamps as in the previous embodiment. Fig. 4 shows an arrangement for multicore cables wherein semi-cylindrical metal members 31, 32 are clamped round the joints between the inner conductors of corresponding pairs by an insulating clamp consisting of jaws 29, 30 drawn together by bolts 34. Another arrangement for multi-core cables is shown in Fig. 6 wherein split sleeves 41, 42 adapted to be clamped on to the outer conductors of corresponding pairs by screws 44 are arranged as shown with an insulating separator 43. Such an assembly of sleeves may be enclosed in a divided lead sleeve 63, 64, Fig. 8, surrounded by a joint box 57. Fig. 9 shows a further embodiment wherein each half of a sleeve formed in two semi-cylindrical parts 1141, 114<SP>11</SP> has lugs 115 through which pass bolts for drawing the two halves together. The surfaces of the sleeve which engage the outer conductors 116, and preferably also the outer surfaces of the supporting tubes 120, are provided with corrosion-resisting and oxidation-resisting coatings 123 and 124 of for example gold, indium, platinum, &c., preferably applied over a layer of silver.
