Abstract

1308358 Cable Joints SIGMAFORM CORP 13 Oct 1970 48660/70 Heading H2E A heat shrinkable insulator suitable for a tap-joint comprises a sheet 11 having a plurality of hollow open-ended cylindrical sleeves 12, 13, 14 of differing diameters integral with and extending from one surface of the sheet. In use the portion of the sheet between sleeves 12, 13 is wrapped around the main wire 15 and sleeve 13 is telescoped over sleeve 12, the portion between sleeves 13, 14 is then wrapped around the wire and sleeve 14 is telescoped on to sleeve 13. A branch wire 16 is fed along the sleeve 12 and joined to the main wire 15 with the insulator slipped out of place. Finally the insulator is centred on the joint and heat shrunk. The insulator may be coated with a semithermoplastic sealant adhesive.
