794,892. Control of A.C. motors. ELECTRICAL APPARATUS CO., Ltd. May 21, 1954 [Feb. 26, 1953], No. 5356/53. Class 38 (3). When an induction motor 1 accelerates from rest and the voltage across its slip-rings decreases, the potential difference developed across resistor 32 by means of rectifier 26 falls below the value of a constant potential difference derived from a rectifier 23. Upon the resultant current passing through relay coils D, E and resistor 32 reaching a predetermined value, the relay E is actuated to energize relay B and remove section 12 of the rotor resistance. As the speed of the motor further increases, relay D is actuated to energize relay C and remove the remaining section 13 of the rotor resistance, the relays D, E being slugged to prevent actuation due to transient effects. In addition to their use for starting the motor, the relays D, E may be adapted to regulate the rotor resistance in accordance with load, so as to increase the resistance when the load is light and to decrease it when the load is heavy.
