820,638. Control of A.C. motors. OFFICINE MECCANICHE RIUNITE S.p.A. May 30, 1956 [Oct. 17, 1955], No. 16777/56. Class 38 (3). Relays 21 ... 24 for controlling the rotor resistance of an induction motor M3 are subjected to the difference between voltages representative of the stator and rotor voltages. respectively, the said representative voltages being derived through transformers TS, TR, and applied to rectifiers RS, RR. When power is supplied to the motor while the rotor is still stationary, the voltage between rectifier-terminals 6, 7 is zero. As the motor-speed increases, the difference-voltage becomes sufficient to operate relay 21 and close contacts 21a in series with contactor coil 31, whereby contacts 31b short-circuit resistance-section R1 and contacts 31a close in series with the relaycoil 22. On further increase of speed, the relay 22 operates to remove the resistance-section R2 and to prepare for the removal of section R3. Thus, the rotor resistance is appropriately reduced as the speed of the motor rises. The rectifier RR is shunted by a resistor R so as to complete the circuit for the relay coils. During reverse-current braking the rectifier RS blocks the circuit of the relays. Specification 794,892 is referred to.
