Abstract
284,177. Jackson, L. Mellersh-, (Electric Machinery Manufacturing Co.). July 20, 1926. Systems for alternating-current motors only.- In a starting system wherein a synchronous motor 1 starts as an induction motor and on approaching synchronous speed has its field-winding f automatically switched-on to a direct-current supply 30 by means of a polarized frequency relay 5, the relay is provided with an extra contact 48 connected to a circuit for operating an unloading device, e.g., a magnetic clutch or an airvalve. The object is to throw the load on the motor substantially simultaneously with the application of direct current to the field. A starting compensator may be arranged so that reduced voltage and full voltage are successively applied to the stator winding.
