Abstract

745,894. Induction motors. WILSON, A. Oct. 24, 1952 [July 24, 1951], No. 17481/51. Class 35. [Also in Group XXXVII] The power-factor of an alternating-current motor is increased by providing an additional stator winding which is connected with a capacitor in a closed circuit separate from the normal running windings of the motor, the capacitor taking no part in the starting operation of the motor. If the motor is of the splitphase type, the additional winding may be the starting winding of the motor which is shortcircuited across a capacitor after it has been used for bringing the motor up to full speed, Fig. 2 (not shown). As shown, the motor has a stator 2 with a delta-connected winding 3 supplied from power-lines 4. Additional windings 5 are located in stator slots 6 connected to the main winding slots by passages 7 of sufficient width to control the direction of flux in the stator. A capacitor 8 is connected across the windings 5. Specifications 6487/03, [Class 35], and 468,871 are referred to.
