Abstract
740,136. Single-phase induction motors. HUTCHINS ELECTRIC CO., Inc. June 9, 1954 [June 15, 1953], No. 16999/54. Class 35. A split-phase motor has a main winding a and auxiliary windings band c on the main and quadrature axes respectively, these auxiliary windings being connected in series and short-circuited for starting purposes. Transformer action between windings a and b causes currents of suitable phase displacement to flow in the windings on the two axes. The supply LI, L2 is connected at points 5 and 15 so that when the short-circuit connection 10 is broken by centrifugal switch 14, all the stator winding acts as the running winding. In a modification (not shown) the supply is connected to points 5 and 7 and a current-responsive relay serves to short-circuit the winding C during starting. Specification 716,453 is referred to.
