Abstract
967,057. Pole-changing windings. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. July 25, 1963 [Aug. 27, 1962], No. 29502/62. Heading H2A. In a split-phase-start, changepole motor, half of the coils one pole-number are disconnected and replaced by an incomplete winding of the second pole-number to produce an approximation to a complete winding at the second polenumber. The main four-pole winding consists of two pairs of coils 25, 26 at the bottoms of the slots and connected in series through switch-contact 15. The quadrature starting winding 24 is connected in parallel with this main winding through contacts 21, 22 of the starting switch. A six-pole winding 30 is wound in the top of. the slots, and consists of four complete polewindings (30 (2 & 3), 30 (4 & 5)) and two partial windings (30 (1)). Winding 30 is connected through contact 16 of change-pole switch 14, and contact 23 of the starting switch, to a tapping T on the four-pole winding. This puts the two coils 25 of the main winding in series with the six-pole winding, and these coils thus augment the partial windings 30(1) of the six-pole winding. An overload protector 38 is fitted to the end-turns in the space between the two windings.
