Abstract

Alternating - current induction machines; motors, controlling.-In an alternating-current dynamo-electric machine having windings on the rotor adapted to operate in cascade and a winding on the stator to which direct current is supplied at cascade speed, as described in Specification 9261/13, the slip-rings 11, 16 connected to opposite terminals in the rotor winding are connected in pairs to variable resistances 19 adapted to be varied simultaneously, and a switch 3 is provided for short-circuiting one set of terminals, leaving the other set connected in star through the resistances 19, which can be gradually increased until the slip-rings connected thereto are open-circuited. The switch 3 may be operated automatically when the proper speed is reached by a tachometer, a voltmeter connected across the slip rings, or a frequency meter 15 indicating the frequency of the current between the slip-rings. The meter 15 closes a circuit through a coil 9, which operates a switch 8 to close the circuit of the switch coil 7, the switch 8 being maintained closed by a coil 10. A switch 4, connecting the direct-current generator 6 to the stator winding through the leads 5, may be operated simultaneously with the switch 3.
