Abstract

156,813. British Thomson - Houston Co., Ltd., (General Electric Co.). Nov. 20, 1916. Alternating-current induction machines.-The secondary winding 5 of an induction motor is provided with two sets of slip-rings 6, and each set of slip-rings is connected to a separate regulating commutator machine 10, 11. A resistance 7 may be used in starting the motor, the switches 8. 9 being then closed. The commutator machines are provided with compensating-windings 14 and exciting-windings 15; the windings 15 are connected between one set of terminals of the secondary winding 5 and the brushes of an exciter 20, the exciting-winding 23 of which is connected to terminals of the winding 5. The rotating parts of the machines 10, 11, 20 are driven by an induction motor 30. Switches 25, 26 are provided so that one of the regulating- machines may be cut out during a part of the range of control of the induction motor. A single regulating-machine may be used in conjunction with some other form of regulating- means, such as the resistances 7.
