Systems for alternating-current motors only.- In starting a synchronous motor as an induction motor with unexcited field and automatically switching-on exciting current when synchronous speed is attained, the motor 1 supplied through a tapped transformer 5 has its field winding sliprings 7 connected so as to energize a relay coil 17 which acts in conjunction with a voltage relay 16 to connect the slip-rings to an exciter generator 10. A transformer 23 is preferably used to interlinl: the slip-rings with the coil 17. The arrangement comprises a discharge resistance 21, an economy resistance 30, and an exciter fieldweakening resistance 27.
