Synchronizing dynamo-electric machines.-A resistance is connected across the DC armature terminals of a motor-controller at starting, gradually increased and finally open circuited on approaching synchronous speed. Thus resistance may replace, wholly or in part, the resistance connected through slip-ring to the AC rotor winding; in the former case it is usually necessary to reduce the flux in the AC stator bv a known method such as reducing the applied voltage or changing the connections of the winding.
