Dynamos, regulating; motors, controlling; exciting.-In the method of operating a synchronous machine having a three-phase rotor winding by starting it as an induction motor and at synchronism supplying continuous current to two of the rotor phase windings 1, 2 in series and shortcircuiting the third phase winding 3 as described in the parent Specification, the threephase windings on the rotor are connected in series at starting so that they act as a two-phase non-symmetrical winding as shown in 1, Fig. 2. With this arrangement of the rotor windings three slip-rings only are required.
