Abstract

Alternating-current motors; motors, controlling.-In an alternating - current motor which is started up as an asynchronous motor and then converted into a synchronous motor, the winding on the secondary element is arranged in two parts so disposed that for starting they can be connected as a V-winding enclosing a phase angle of 60‹, and for synchronous working one part may be reversed and connected in series with the other part to receive continuous current. For starting up, the winding is connected across a three-phase starting resistance G, H, K, as shown in Fig. 3, the phase winding C. D. being afterwards reversed and continuous current supplied to the terminals O, P, Fig. 4, for synchronous running. The windings AB, CD are disposed in the core slots in a manner similar to two of the coils of an ordinary three-phase winding.
