Abstract

Alternating - Current induction machines; dynamos, regulating; motors, controlling. - To start induction motors, the stator windings are changed from star to delta connection by inserting resistances and breaking up the neutral point, without interrupting the circuit. The sequence of changes according to one modification is shown in Figs. 1 to 4, in which X, Y, and Z are the three phases of the stator, and A, B, and C, the three resistances inserted in parallel with them. According to another modification, the resistances are inserted in series with the respective phases, and parallel connections are made as shown in Fig. 8 before breaking up the neutral point. In both cases the resistance is finally cut out. The invention may be applied to changing the connections of a dynamo from delta to star.
