Abstract

531,907. Control of A.C. motors. BROOKHIRST SWITCHGEAR, Ltd., and SHREEVE, A. G. July 12, 1939, No. 20261. [Class 38 (iii)] Non - regenerative braking. A motor is disconnected from its supply by de-energization of a main contactor C, and back contacts C, thereupon energize a braking contactor B which connects a rectifier T on one side the supply, and on the other side to the motor windings. A condenser K is connected in parallel with the coil Sa of a relay S across the output terminals of the rectifier, and is gradually charged after the braking connections have been established. Thus the voltage applied to the coil Sa increases and after a pre-determined period of braking contacts S, are closed to deenergize a relay R which de-energizes the contactor B, and disconnects the rectifier T. The application of the system to a motor controlled to run selectively in both directions is described with reference to Fig. 2, not shown.
