830,603. Control of D.C. motors. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Aug. 17, 1956 [Aug. 22, 1955], No. 24100/55. Class 38 (3). [Also in Group XXXV] A D.C. load such as a traction motor 21, is energized from the series-connected outputs of rectifier bridges 13, 14, 15, 16, the A.C. terminals of which are connected to separate supply terminals such as those of the secondary windings 10b, 10c, 10d, 10e of transformer 10, which may have different numbers of turns. The output voltage may be varied in steps by suitable sequential operation of contactors 17, 18, 19, 20. The bridges may comprise germanium rectifiers and be arranged for a three-phase supply.
