Abstract
PURPOSE:To provide a thyrister converter of small capacity by first starting a thyrister converter and then switching on a diode converter when the diode converter and the thyrister converter are connected in series to supply an electric current to a load. CONSTITUTION:Diode converter 31, 32 and a thyrister converter 33 are connected through the intermediary of an AC breaker 11-13 and a transformer for conversion 21-23 and the DC sides of the converters are mutually connected in series to supply an electric power to an induction load 40. Then as an operating sequence, first the breaker 13 is switched on to start the thyrister converter 33 and the load 40 is applied with a high voltage to excite rapidly upto a prearranged current value by switching on the breakers 11, 12 in a state where a small amount of current is run. Consequently, it is possible to use the thyrister converter 33 of extremely small capacity because the diode converters 31, 32 are started under a state where a small amount of current is run and therefore, improve the economy.
