Abstract

PURPOSE: To decrease a harmonic current by reducing a source current using a method wherein a series circuit provided between a thyristor and a resistor is connected to a transformer and a part of a motor current is branched off to a resistor when a regenerative braking is performed.
CONSTITUTION: A circuit, with a thyristor 7 and a plurality of resistors 81∼84 connected in series, is connected between DC output terminals of a semiconductor converter and short-circuit switches 91∼94 are connected to each resistor in parallel. A portion of a load current is branched off to the resistor side by the semiconductor converter when an inverter is in operation and the current applied to the converter is reduced, thereby enabling to lessen the power source side harmonic current at the time of braking. In this way, as the whole electric braking power does not turn into regenerative power and a portion of which is consumed by the resistor, the harmonic ingredient of the source current can be decreased.
