Abstract

PURPOSE: To increase maximum regenerative power when changing AC power into DC power through a converter to control a motor, by providing a forced commutation circuit and an energy absorption circuit between the source of the AC power and the converter.
CONSTITUTION: The DC power is supplied to the motor 5 by the AC power source 1, an AC reactor 2, a bridge-type thyristor unit 3 and a DC reactor 4. The forced commutation circuit and the energy absorption circuit are connected between the AC reactor and the thyristor unit. The forced commutation circuit comprises a semiconductor switch 6, a commutation reactor 8 and a commutation capacitor 7. The voltage between the AC input terminals of the converter made of a thyristor bridge circuit reaches a prescribed level, most of the current of the capacitor 7 is shunted to the energy absorption circuit 9 so that the energy of the AC-side inductance is stored in the absorption circuit. The stored energy is then returned to the AC power source through a energy recovery means.
