Abstract

PURPOSE: To increase the maximum regenerating power by providing semiconductor switches which connect a commutation helping circuit to the AC power supply terminals of a converter, and semiconductor switches for inverting commutation- capacitor voltage.
CONSTITUTION: An AC power supply 1 is connected to a load 5 by way of an AC- side reactor 2, a main thyristor bridge 3, and a reactor 4. A diode bridge 7 is connected to AC-side terminals a and b of the main bridge 3, and an overvoltage suppression capacitor 8 is connected to the DC side of the diode bridge 7. Furthermore, is provided a commutation helping circuit 6, wherein are connected a commutation capacitor 65 and a commutation reactor 66 which are connected in series with thyristors 61 and 62, and thyristors 63 and 64 for inverting the voltage of the commutation capacitor 65.
