Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the efficiency, by a method wherein the primary side of a current transformer is connected between a snubber circuit of a GTO thyristor and a positive pole of a power source and the secondary side of the current transformer is connected between both the poles of the source so that switching energy is fed back to the source. CONSTITUTION:A GTO thyristor which has an anode reactor 4 and a snubber circuit 9, 10 is connected to a DC power source 1 in series. A feedback current transformer 15 is provided and its primary side is connected between a positive pole of the source 1 and the junction of the snubber circuit 9, 10 and its secondary side is connected between both poles of the source 1 so that an electric power converter is composed and supplies electric power to a load. Thus energy of the snubber circuit 9, 10 when the GTO thyristor is ON and accumulated energy in the anode reactor 4 when the GTO thyristor is OFF can be respectively fed back to the source 1 by the feedback current transformer so that the loss is minimized and the efficiency is improved.
