Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce a harmonic current running to a power source by a method wherein a series circuit provided between a thyristor and a resistor is connected in parallel to one of unit converters which are longitudinally connected.
CONSTITUTION: Between DC terminals of at least one set or more of unit converters 41∼44 which have been longitudinally connected, a series circuit provided between a thyristor 71 and a resistor 81 is connected in parallel in such way that it will have the same polarity as the unit converters, the thyristor is ignited when a regenerative braking is performed, a load current is applied to the resistor through the thyristor without operating the unit converters and a current running to a power source and a harmonic current are decreased by equivalently reducing windings from those used when powered. To be more precise, no fluctuating current is running to the unit converter 41 where the series circuit between the thyristor and the resistor is connected in parallel, the source current is reduced by the amount used for a winding and a composite harmonic current running to the power source is decreased even when the harmonic current of the windings is increased.
