Abstract
496,897. Control of A.C. motors. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., and ANSCOMBE, L. D. June 9, 1937, No. 16015. [Class 38 (iii)] Dynamo-electric bracking.- The field e of a synchronous motor is supplied from an exciter d separately driven from the alternating current supply, and for normal running the excitation of the exciter is reduced to give normal excitation of the motor, while for dynamic braking the excitation of the exciter is restored to its full value so that the motor is over-excited. The field of the exciter d may be supplied from a second exciter c through a resistance b which is in circuit for normal running and cut out by means of a switch a for dynamic braking. In a modification the exciter d has a shunt field and an opposing separately excited field, the latter being energized for normal running but disconnected for dynamic braking.
