[Class 35] [Also in Group XXXVII] A booster set controlling the current on a load circuit 7, 7b comprises a booster 6, the speed of which varies with the power transmitted, excited by a field 6a so that any change in its armature current produces a corresponding change in excitation in a sense to oppose the change of current and an exciter 5 for the booster coupled thereto to produce an excitation varying with booster speed, so that upon any variation of armature current, the excitation varies to oppose the variation, the power transmitted and with it the booster speed change, and the change of excitation continues until the armature current is restored substantially to its original value. The booster field 6a is connected to the supply in series with the exciter 5 driven with the booster 6 by a motor 1. In addition to the field 5a in series with the booster, the exciter has a field 5b connected to the line in series with a regulator 5c. The arrangement operates as described in Specification 485,312 to maintain a predetermined current in motors 7, 7b. The machine 1 may have a field 1e carrying the current of the exciter 5, and the circuit through the exciter 5 may be connected to a point between the series field 1a and the armature of the machine 1. The machines 5 or 6 may have a field carrying the current of the machine 1, or additionally or alternatively these machines may have a shunt field.
