Abstract

513,621. Automatic control systems. BRITISH THOMSON - HOUSTON CO., Ltd., and STEWART, C. Jan. 14, 1938, No. 20539/39. Divided out of 511,192. [Class 38 (iv)] Speed; frequency.-To control the speed of an alternator or any other rotating machine a regulator of the instantaneous speed is influenced so as to maintain a constant average speed. An electric relay 6 responsive to variations in current proportional to instantaneous speed of the machine 1 has its electrical characteristics adjusted. for this purpose by a speed error integrator so that the mean value of instantaneous speed which it produces is adjusted according to variations in average speed. Resistances 12, 13 in series and or shunt with the regulator coil are operated on by switch means 8, 9, 10 actuated by a regulating error integrator 7 between an alternator 2 and a master clock 11. The regulator 6 may be energized by a D.C. generator 3 driven by a synchronous motor 4.
