Abstract

619,011.. Automatic control systems. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Nov. 19, 1946, No. 34271. Convention date, March 5, 1942. [Classes 35 and 38 (iv)] In an amplidyne excited alternator system comprising automatic voltage regulation, the speed of response and stability are both increased by the raising of the time constant of the alternator excitation circuit and the lowering of the inductance of the amplidyne auxiliary circuit. In the present invention, as distinct from those disclosed in Specifications 539,835 and 539,837, the winding 11 partially neutralises the armature ampere-turns on the axis 7-8 ; and the winding 10, on the same axis, which carries the amplidyne output current, induces an E.M.F. between the brushes 4-5 approximately equal to the ohmic drop in the circuit 4-3-10-9-5. Slow voltage variations in the supply to the amplidyne reference field 16 are removed by a regulator of known type.
