[Class 38 (iv)] [See also Group XXXVII] Speed.-A motor M is supplied from a constant voltage generator K in series with a booster generator Z having a field winding F2 divided into parallel-connected branches and fed from the generator K in series with an exciter E, the field of the exciter E being capable of regulation to vary the voltage of the exciter over a range extending from a value which is a fraction, say one half, of the voltage of the generator K to a value which is greater than, say one and a half times, that voltage. The exciter field is controlled to maintain the speed of the motor M by means of a regulating resistance R1 cut in and out of circuit by a relay k controlled by a Tirrill regulator T having a coil b connected across the motor armature. The speed at which the motor is maintained is determined by the setting of a resistance R2 in the circuit of the coil b, and an additional coil c on the regulator is provided, connected in series with a resistance R3 across a resistance R4 in the armature circuit of the motor, to eliminate speed variations due to changes in load.
